Modi Govt making excuses to shield CVC Chowdary from corruption charges, alleges Cong

New Delhi, Jan 29: Alleging that the Narendra Modi government is trying to save Chief Vigilance Commissioner K V Chowdary even after receiving complaints against him, the Congress on Tuesday said that the government constantly comes up with ‘untenable excuses to save its collaborator in violating the Constitution’.

“After two long years, the Modi Government, instead of ordering an investigation and acting on the petition, now comes up with an untenable excuse to save its ‘collaborator in violating the Constitution”, CVC Mr Chowdary from the clutches of law”, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

Addressing mediapersons at AICC headquarters, Mr Singhvi pointed out that whistle-blower Indian Forest Service officer Sanjiv Chaturvdi filed two petitions against Mr Chowdhary on corruption charges, yet, Modi government failed to act on it and instead came up with explanations on technical grounds to bail him out.

The Congress leader said that the President forwarded the petitions to DoPT. He claimed that “the department which is directly under Prime Minister has abdicated its constitutional responsibility to act on two complaints received over a year ago against Mr Chowdary, saying that ‘there is no guideline to handle such grievances’”

“Modi Governmentfalsely stated that ‘presently no guidelines to handle complaints of corruption and other misconduct against Chief Vigilance Commissioner/Vigilance Commissioners are in place,”, Mr Singhvi quoted reports as saying .

Citing the Section 6 of the CVC Act, Mr Singhvi said,“the CVC or any VC may be removed by the President. The President may ask the SC to probe the any of the CVC's officers on grounds of misbehaviour or incapacity, post which if the President is satisfied with the outcomes of the probe, may order the removal of the concerned officer. This section clearly empowers the Central Govt to take action, if required”.

“The CVC is not a separate cadre, so the CCS (CCA) Rules apply to the post of the CVC as well. So nothing bars the Modi Govt to order an investigation into the allegations by Mt Chaturvedi to remove the CVC, if he is found guilty”, the Congress leader said.

He further alleged that under Mr Modi, every institution, including, CBI, CVC, CBDT, ED, has been denigrated, damaged, demolished and destroyed.

“Mr Chowdary is single handedly responsible for lending his shoulder for the Modi Government to remove CBI Director, Alok Verma. His fallacious report was the basis of Mr Verma’s removal. He is hand in glove with his partisan political masters and his transgression, misconduct and undue interference in the sordid saga of CBI is now well known. His reported meeting with Rakesh Asthana has made him the ‘collaborator in violating the Constitution”, Mr Singhvi added.

He further alleged that no institution is safe from the ‘influence and illegal practices’ unleashed by the Modi Government with the singular objective to make them subservient. (UNI)
