Madurai, Jan 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi itself has cultivated a brand name in health care and with AIIMS in Madurai this brand has been taken to all parts of the country.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for AIIMS, he said 'with AIIMS Madurai we can say that this brand of healthcare has been taken to all corners of the country, fron Kanniyakumari to Kashmir to Madurai and from Guwuhati to Gujarat'.
Stating that AIIMS at Madurai would be constructed at cost of over Rs 1,200 crore, he said it would benefit the entire population of Tamilnadu. He said the BJP-led NDA government was giving great priority to the health sector so that everyone was healthy and healthcare was affordable. He also said that under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, the government has supported upgradation of government medical colleges across the country.
Observing that the NDA government was committed to strengthening the initiatives for ensuring universal healthcare, Mr Modi said Mission 'Indradhanush' was setting a new paradigm in preventive healthcare.

He said he was happy to learn that the Tamil Nadu government was upscaling the TB Free Chennai initiative and seeking to eliminate TB in the state by 2023 itself.
Noting that the centre has implemented universal health coverage for the country, he said under the scheme financial protection was being given up to Rs five lakh per family to cover 10 crore families, in case of hospitalisation. He said this was the largest health insurance scheme in the world.
A total of 1.57 crore people from Tamil Nadu are covered under this scheme and in just three months 89,000 beneficiaries were admitted and more than 200 crore amount has been authorised. He said he was also happy to inaugurate 12 Post Office Passport Sewa Kendras in Tamil Nadu which was one more example of improving the ease of living for the citizens. (UNI)
