New Delhi, Jan 12 : President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army on Sukirtimaya Rashtradeep General Purna Chandra Thapa who is Chief of the Army Staff of the Nepalese Army.
The honour was conferred on him at a special Investiture ceremony, for his commendable military prowess and immeasurable contribution to fostering Nepal’s long and friendly association with India.
General Thapa served as the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force from January 19, 2015 till February 7, 2016.
He was educated at the University of Madras in India and Tribhuvan University in Nepal and holds a Master of Philosophy degree.
He also pursued additional studies at the Army Command and the Staff College of Nepal. (UNI)
