New Delhi, Jan 12: Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said that the politics of 21st century will be politics of performance and development and in this context said that the NDA government has worked for both SC-ST communities and also the general category.
"Our government has worked for the economically weaker sections among the general category and ensure 10 per cent reservation for them. This move has given a new direction to social justice in India," Mr Gadkari said at the BJP National Convention moving political resolution.
In this context, he referred to the Ordinance and new Bill brought in by the government that sought to address the grievances of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes after the Supreme Court order on the Prevention of SC-ST Atrocities Act.
"Social equality is a matter of commitment for us," said Mr Gadkari, also a former BJP president.
The party and the government have been working consistently to ensure a country where there is no hunger and unemployment. "This is what Swami Vivekananda had envisioned about India," he said keeping in mind the day's importance as Saturday is also the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Mr Gadkari also mentioned about the anti Triple Talaq law piloted by the government and said the initiative has ensured justice for the Muslim women.
"Those who wanted to call themselves progressive, allowed the practice to continue just for the sake of vote bank politics," he said slamming the opposition parties.
"Under Modi's leadership, we will truly achieve a India that was envisioned by Swami Vivekananda," the Union Minister said.
He said a big transformation has unfolded in the country during last four and half years as the country has come out from a stage where there was only talk about corruption in various sectors - 2G Spectrum and also Commonwealth Games.
"The government had suffered from policy paralysis. India had become one of the fragile economies," he recounted.
Dwelling at the prospective alliance making between Samajwadi and BSP, he said the real 'king maker' for their friendship is the BJP.
"It is us who are the real king makers of their friendship," he said adding it is the fear of BJP and inevitable defeat that has brought these people together again.
"In last four and half years, we showed work. It is time to materialise the dream envisioned by Swami Vivekananda under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Mr Gadkari said.
The Political Resolution was seconded by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. "In last four and half years, the Modi government has performed under very difficult circumstances," she said.
"On average, the government took one decision a day to help the poor people," she said. UNI
