New Delhi, Jan 7: The Congress Party on Monday alleged that the Government is avoiding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Rafale because it will expose all facts about Rafale deal which they are hiding since the beginning.

Addressing a press conference here, former Defence Minister and senior Congress leader AK Antony said that if the JPC would be constituted, BJP will have maximum number of members from both the Houses and the Chairman will also be from the BJP. Then then why Government is afraid of a JPC?

“The Congress will have only one member from each house. However, but the Government knows that JPC is entitled to seek the files and other documents related to Rafale deal and it can also question the concerned officials . In that case, the truth that the Government is hiding will be exposed. This is why the Government is avoiding a JPC probe in this deal,' he added.

Mt Antony also charged the NDA Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, of seriously compromising on the national security by unilaterally reducing the numbers of Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) from 126 to 36.

Charging the Defence minister of misleading parliament on the Rs 1 lakh crore worth of contracts given to HAL, Mr Antony said,'the Defence Minister has talked of giving one lakh crore worth of contracts to HAL whereas only contracts worth Rs 26000 cr are on papers.'

Mr Antony said that attempt was being made to destroy the image of HAl, which has been producing 80 per cent of the aircraft. (UNI)
