New Delhi, Dec20: The Rajya Sabha on Thursday witnessed uproar by the AIADMK on the issue of aid to farmers from the Cauvery delta and the YSR Congress Party over the demand for special status for Andhra Pradesh, forcing adjournment for the day.
Soon after laying the papers in the House, the Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu informed that the Congress member Anand Sharma had raised a ‘point of order’ in the House on Minister of state for Parliamentary affairs Vijay Goel having demanded apology from Rahul Gandhi on Rafale issue when Gandhi is not a member of the Upper House.
“I have checked the facts from the records and no such demand were made by the Minister', Naidu said.
He also said that Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs demanded an apology from Sharma for misleading the House but the matter should be settled now.
Sharma said that though he accepted the ruling of the Chair but there were some placards raised on Tuesday by the members of the treasury bench.
'The display of placard in the House does not go in the record,' the Chairman replied to Congress member Anand Sharma and appealed to settle the issue and move ahead.
In the meantime AIDMK and YSRCP member came to the well and started shouting slogans for their demand.
Naidu appealed to the agitating members to cooperate to transact the business as there were several important issues alike cyclone, price rise, and issues of public importance that were pending.
"Even you can discuss the Rafale issue in the House as the Government is ready for discussion “, the Chairman appealed the members.
As Naidu's plea to the agitating members to go back to their seats and cooperate in transacting the proceeding of the House fell on deaf ears, he adjourned the Upper house for the day. (UNI)
