New Delhi, Dec 20: The BJP on Thursday stepped up attack on Congress on AgustaWestland chopper deal and claimed the British middleman Christian Michel was also involved in 'taking out' the classified document out of the country.
'There are papers to suggest that Michel engaged the entire UPA cabinet. This shows the kind of influence he had,' BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters here.
He said internal audit of Italy has admitted that there was a scam of Rs 236 crore and 'after spending this amount Michel visited India 300 times in 10-15 years'.
The BJP leader alleged during so many visits, Michel probably kept track on the movement of the files.
He said, however, this amount spent does not reflect in any formal transaction.
'This means the money was given to some people,' Mr Javadekar said, adding as a Rajya Sabha MP he (Mr Javadekar) had questioned the then Defence Minister A K Antony.
'But Mr Antony was evasive in his response and has said no inquiry can be done in India because no report has come from Italy,' the Minister said.
Mr Javadekar also recalled writing a letter to Mr Antony on December 12, 2012.
'I had challenged Mr Antony that his reply was not factual as probes has already started overseas,' he said.
He said it is therefore vital that the true face of the Congress is exposed and this 'bechaini' (desperation) is making the Congress party throw allegation against the NDA government.
'Chor machaye shor (guilty making the loudest noise),' he said, adding the internal audit of the company itself showed that there were no proper papers on how the expenditure to the tune of Rs 236 crore was made.
'The money must have gone to some people,' the Minister said. (UNI)
