New Delhi, Dec 13 : Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday rushed to UPA chairperson and his mother Sonia Gandhi for possible consultation on the government formation in Madhya and Rajasthan wherein the grand old party wrested power from BJP after fiercely contested elections.
Sources said Mr Gandhi went to 10 Janpath, the official residence, of Sonia Gandhi to "consult" and take her advice on party's next moves in these two states. The meeting between Mr Gandhi and Mr Sonia Gandhi assume significance on the backdrop of differences surfacing between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot camps for the race to the coveted post of Rajasthan Chief Minister.
In Madhya Pradesh, Mr Gandhi seemed to face a peculiar situation wherein pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath has come under attack for his alleged role in 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The Chhindwara MP and the party veteran Nath was considered a top contender for the post of Chief Minister in the central Indian state.
Amid suspense over the chief ministerial faces for the two states, Congress president on Thursday said an announcement would be made soon. The statement by Mr Gandhi came even as he held meetings with two CM aspirants of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot and was expected to meet MP Chief Ministerial aspirants Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Mr Gandhi, on a question on who would be Chief Ministers (of Rajasthan, MP and Chhattisgarh ), said, 'We are checking, we are taking inputs from different people in the party, we are taking input from MLAs, we are taking input from workers, we are getting a comprehensive answer to what the Congress party and others feel.'
