Kishanganj, Dec 7: Senior Congress leader and party MP from Kishanaganj Maulana Asrar-ul-Haque passed away following cardiac arrest here today. He was 77.
Sources said, Mr Haque developed health complications at Circuit House here after his return from a function late last night. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Mr Haque is survived by three sons and two daughters. His mortal remain would be buried at his ancestral Tarabari village later in the day.
As it is, Mr Haque who was born on January 15, 1942 had studied at Darul Uloom, Deoband and was running several madrassas in Bihar.
He had made remarkable contributions in setting up the campus of Aligarh Muslim University in Kishanganj. He was the state president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and was also a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board. He was also the president of All India Milli Council.
Mr Haque had contested election several times but he was elected MP for the first time in 2009. Later, he had registered impressive victory in 2014 Lok Sabha election despite strong Modi wave. UNI
