New Delhi, Dec 6 : Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a mentioning by a lawyer and dismissed PIL's hearing on an urgent basis.
The PIL was in connection with the interview given to a national daily newspaper by former judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Kurian Joseph, which had levelled allegations against former CJI Dipak Misra that he perceived to be influenced by external forces.
The lawyer, Shashank Deo, mentioned the matter before the apex court three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi.
The advocate sought an investigation into the retired SC Judge Justice Kurian Joseph's interview to a national daily alleging that the former CJI Dipak Misra was perceived to be influenced by external forces. Deo also told the top court bench that these types of interview or statements given to the media really affected the very credibility of the institution.
To this, CJI Gogoi said, credibility of the institution can be maintained by those who man it and not by newspaper reports. The apex court did not find any merit in the mentioning by Deo and refused to hear it on an urgent manner. (UNI)
