New Delhi, Nov 26: Terming friendly relations between India and Pakistan as the only way forward to put an end to the scourge of terrorism, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday expressed the hope that saner elements would prevail in both the countries to find a meaningful solution to the problem.

Releasing a book “Fables of Fractured Times”, written by Congress leader Manish Tewari here, he said,' 10 years ago so many of our country men and women were butchered in the city of Mumbai in a dastardly attack by terrorists which took the lives of 117 of our citizens. Terror has achieved no purpose. I can only hope that saner elements will prevail in India and Pakistan to find a meaningful solution to the problem of getting control over acts of terror.'

Dr Singh said that “what is happening today in Kashmir is a result of strained relations between India and Pakistan”. The former Prime minister said lot of changes had taken place at international level which was unthinkable 10 years ago.

“People have come to terms with globalization. Now, countries which once championed the cause of globalisation are now becoming champions of protectionism, ‘he said. He also said European Union was in trouble today as nobody anticipated that Britain would walk out from the EU.

Congratulating Manish Tiwari on his new book, he said,'the book is compendium of his published articles, as a versatile account of the domestic and international events.' UNI
