New Delhi, Nov 9: Maldives newly elected President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend his swearing in ceremony in Male on November 17.
Briefing reporters here on Friday, MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said Modi has accepted the invitation. "Prime Minister has accepted the invitation with pleasure. In keeping with our neighbourhood first policy, India looks forward to closely work with Maldives in further deepening our partnership," he said.
The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s candidate Solih emerged victorious over incumbent president Abdulla Yameen in the election held on September 23. Modi's visit to the Maldives was cancelled in 2015 due to the political situation in that country.
MEA spokesman also announced that Prime Minister Modi will visit Singapore to attend East Asia Summit. (UNI)
