Indian Army & China’s PLA jointly celebrate “Diwali” at Nathu La

Nathu La, Nov 2: A Special Border Personal Meeting (BPM) between the Border Troops of Indian Army and China’s People Liberation Army was held at the historic “Natu La ” (Indian Side) in East Sikkim in Wednesday to jointly celebrate “Diwali - The Indian Festival of Lights”.

The BPM was conducted between the Army delegations of the two countries in an atmosphere of warmth and friendship with an aim of enhancing mutual trust and promoting Border Peace and Tranquility.

The first ever BPM at Natu La was conducted in the year 1995. The BPMs serve as important platforms for resolving issue of local nature besides promoting mutual trust and confidence amongst border troops.

The Special BPM included formal and informal interactions between the two sides followed by cultural programmes portraying the cultural diversity of the two countries.

The Chinese side also participated in the cultural exchange with great warmth and enthusiasm.

Pleasantries were also exchanged in North Sikkim at Kongra La. Joint participation in the Special BPM is also seen as a reciprocal gesture to Chinese invitation extended by the other side to celebrate the 69th National Day of China on October 1 last. (UNI)
