New Delhi, Oct 10: Railways Minister Piyush Goyal condoled the death of six people in the 14003 Farakka Express derailments in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for next of the kin of those killed and Rs 1 lakh to those injured seriously.
Five front coaches along with engine derailed on the outer of Harchandpur station on the Lucknow-Rae Bareli rail section, about 65 km from the state capital in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Mr Goyal while bereaving the deaths said, 'I am in constant contact with the railway officials for relief work. Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia will be given to next of the kin of those dead and Rs one lakh to those injured. Those with minor injuries will get Rs 50,000.'
Confirming the number of casualties, UP DGP O P Singh said five bodies have been sent to hospital and another is still inside the derailed coach.
The DGP said the injured have been rushed to the hospital in Rae Bareli and Lucknow.
The deceased included two children, a male and a female. Around six passengers are critically injured. Two teams of NDRF have been rushed to the spot while railways has sent a relief and rescue team. Senior railway and police officials have rushed to the spot. (UNI)
