MJ Akbar, a veteran journalist who is also a junior foreign minister, was allegedly named in a #metoo row.
A couple of days back, Priya Ramani, a journalist mentioned MJ Akbar’s name in a tweet, in which she allegedly said that Akbar had made uncomfortable moves towards her. In the tweet, Priya explained that Akbar invited her into a hotel room in Mumbai around 7pm, when she was 23 and he was 43, for an interview and made uncomfortable moves towards her.
Seeking explanation, journalists approached Union Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, who is also the boss of MJ Akbar, but Sushma was reluctant to respond on the issue.
Now the sexual harassment allegation against MJ Akbar is getting hot on the social media as many others too began to share their #MeToo stories.
Priya Ramani said that she had first shared her account a year ago when the #MeToo campaign exploded in the US with the Harvey Weinstein scandal. MJ Akbar is believed to be in Nigeria. (PenNews with input from UNI)
