Rahul steps up attack on PM on IL&FS issue

New Delhi, Sep 30: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday stepped up attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the debt-ridden Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS), whose recent debt defaults sparked concern about contagion in the financial markets.

'Your favourite private company is sinking, Mr Gandhi said and asked 'why do you want to save it using the LIC money?'LIC is a symbol of country's trust and people had invest their hard earned money in it, Mr Gandhi said.

'Why are you playing with people's money,' he alleged.Does ILFS means ‘I Love Financial Scams' for you, Mr Gandhi said in a tweet. The Congress leader alleged that the Gift City Project, envisaged by Narendra Modi as then Gujarat chief minister, was pending for 11 years and was virtually a "gift" to the IL&FS.

'Lights, camera, scam

Scene one: 2007, CM Modi gives Rs 70,000 crore project Gift City to IL&FS. No work done. Scams came to the fore

Scene two: 2018, PM Modi is bailing out IL&FS, which is in Rs 91,000 core debt, using people's money invested in LIC-SBI,' he said in another tweet.

'Chowkidar ki daari mein tinka (A guilty conscience needs no accuser), taking on Mr Modi for him wanting to be a 'Chowkidar' not the the prime minister.

The Congress, citing the crisis in IL&FS, has been alleged that Narendra Modi-led government has systematically demolished the foundations of the banking and financial services sectors of the country in the last four and a half years. (UNI)
