Indian Navy officer and circumnavigator Abhilash Tomy, who was rescued from high seas following a mishap during a solo circumnaviation sailing tour, has figured in the Prime Minister Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' Radio talk on Saturday.
Praising Abhilash Tomy’s courage, PM Modi said that the fighting spirit while facing crisis was a rare thing and the Malayalai Navy Officer Abhilash Tomy is a role model for everybody. Modi further said that the courage showed by Abhilash Tomy while overcoming a do-or-die battle in life was an inspiration for all of us.
“Everybody was under stress about how to save Abhilash Tomy. I talked with Tomy over phone. The mental power showed by Abhilash Tomy is a model for everybody. He is role model for our country's youth,” Modi said.
“He fought for life without food and water. I salute him. He will be an inspiration for all youth of the country,” Modi said in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ which was broadcast on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.
“Though he was injured and his vessel damaged during the Golden Globe International solo circumnavigation event, Abhilash Tomy faced everything with mental power. He is a courageous officer,” Modi added.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi had spoken with Abhilash Tomy.
