Chitrakoot, MP, Sept 26: In a no-holds-barred attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi today fired a barrage of criticism at him for purchasing Rafale fighter jets at a "highly-inflated" price, implementation of the 'Gabbar Singh Tax' and deteriorating unemployment trends.
Mr Gandhi, who arrived on a two-day visit to Satna and Rewa today, made the statement while addressing a public meeting here. He was equally scathing in his criticism against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan whom he described him as a 'Yojana machine (announcement-making machine).'
"The UPA Government purchased 126 Rafale fighter jets for the Indian Air Force costing Rs 526 cr per aircraft. The contract to build these aircraft had to be given to Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited – which had a 70-year-long experience in manufacturing aircraft. Several lakh engineers would have got employment in the HAL," said Mr Gandhi.
"Nonetheless, the Premier cancelled the old contract, and without consulting his cabinet or the Defence Minister, he helped his industrialist friend Anil Ambani in pocketing Rs 30,000 cr," he said
Pointing out that the Defence Minister refused to disclose the price of Rafale fighter jet in Parliament citing secret pact, the Gandhi scion claimed that the French President told him that the secrecy clause did not apply to price. The price was later revealed to be a whopping Rs 1,600 cr. (UNI)
