New Delhi, Sep 13: Union Minister and BJP lawmaker from West Bengal Babul Supriyo has joined issue with Congress president Rahul Gandhi on his demand for resignation of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley after business tycoon Vijay Mallya claimed that he had met Jaitley before leaving India.
" Gandhi, you are making a political allegation on Arun Jaitleyji based on ‘nothing’. Forgot you are on bail with ongoing investigations against you on several cases? - National Herald, Tax Evasion etc etc. Plz step down as the Prez of the 'Historical’ Congress while the probes are on," Supriyo tweeted.
He was responding to Gandhi's tweet on Wednesday late evening that in the wake of Vijay Mallya’s "extremely serious allegations", Prime Minister Narendra Modi should immediately order an independent probe into the matter and that Arun Jaitley "should step down as Finance Minister while this probe is underway".
Meanwhile, other politicians too have reacted on the episode.
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "Why did the Finance Minister hide this information till now?"
Former BJP leader and also an ex-Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha also slammed the saffron party on the issue.
"Not only the finance minister, the entire BJP must come clean on its relations with Vijay Mallya," Sinha wrote on the micro blogging site. (UNI)
