NCW lashes out Kerala Govt for not acting against MLA who abused rape survivor

New Delhi, Sep 12: Taking a pot-shot at the Kerala government, the National Commission for Women on Tuesday said the state government failed to act against MLA PC George, who used abusive language against a nun, and also to take steps on the protest by nuns in Kochi.

Talking to media persons here, NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said the women’s body will take the matter to the Chief Minister and that atrocities against women are on the rise in Kerala, once he is back from the US, where he is undergoing treatment.

She also informed that the Commission has suo moto taken cognisance of the incident that the body of a 54-year-old nun was found in a well in a convent in Kerala’s Pathanapuram. “The Commission will ensure fair investigation and speedy delivery of justice to the nun victims and survivors,” Ms Sharma said.

The Commission has also summoned George, an independent MLA in Kerala Assembly, on September 20 for abusive language against a nun, who has accused Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal of sexually assaulting her multiple times between 2014 and 2016. (UNI)
