‘Conspiracy’ of anti-Church team, claims Jalandhar bishop

Jalandhar bishop Franco Mulakkal has come out against the charge of rape raised against him and the protest by a section of nuns saying it was part of a conspiracy.

He told mediapersons that the protestors were those against the Church and were using the nuns as part of this conspiracy. However, he added that he was not against their right to protest, though it was part of a larger conspiracy.

He said he had cooperated with the probe team which questioned him for more than nine hours, and added the he would do all he could in the investigation.

He claimed he had given a clear picture to the probe team which needed time to compare his statement against that of the nun and was certain that he would get 'justice’..

Separately, the Punjab police said they had done all possible help to the probe team in questioning the bishop and beefed up security at the Bishop House in Jalandhar where protests are being planned by women organisations.
