New Delhi, Sep 9: A day before 'Bharat bandh' agitation by Congress on continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices, the party on Sunday claimed that it had received the support of at least 20 parties, while appealing to the Narendra Modi-led dispensation, to bring petroleum products under the Goods Services Tax (GST) umbrella.
Addressing a press conference here, AICC senior spokesperson Ajay Maken said the rise in fuel prices had led to inflation. 'Our demand from Central government is to bring petrol and diesel prices under the GST ambit. This is among the main issues, on which Congress has called a 'Bharat bandh' on Monday'.
Maken asserted that fuel prices were increasing, due to high Excise duty. 'There are 20-21 political parties that are participating in the protest,' he claimed. The Congress leader, however, appealed to all the party workers to ensure a peaceful protest on Monday.
Congress, on Thursday, had given the call of a nationwide bandh. (UNI)
