World Bank agrees to provide loan to flood-hit Kerala

The World Bank(WB) has agreed to offer loan to Kerala which is on rebuilding exercise after the flood wrath.

World Bank officials held talks with the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and officials and sought a detailed report which would have to be ratified by the Centre. Sanction of loan would be after this. The loan would be in areas of drinking water, education and transport.

While it take at least three to four years for sanctioning loans, World Bank representative Isham Abu said in Thiruvananthapuram that taking into consideration the situation in Kerala, it would hasten the process and try clearing the loan in six months.

Asian Development Bank(ADB) officials also held preliminary talks with officials.

Separately, Union Minister of State Pon Radhakrishnan held talks and said the Centre would do all it could to help Kerala and the Prime Minister was sympathetic to the people of Kerala.
