Committee to nab fraudulent NRI grooms formulated: MEA

Jalandhar, Aug 28: To nab the fraudulent NRI grooms and bring justice to the victim brides, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has constituted a committee to elaborate guidelines for the registration of marriages of NRIs, MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar here on Tuesday.

The grooms who had deserted their brides after marrying them, are being issued E-summons, he said. All the three Joint Secretaries--Raveesh Kumar, Deepak Mittal and Jatin Patel--were here to carry forward government's strategic program of ‘Videsh Aaya Pradesh ke Dwaar’ in Jalandhar.

He said that the objective of the initiative was to connect the MEA to the regional media and expand outreach to the common people. Mittal gave a brief presentation about steps taken by the Ministry to help the Indian community and Diaspora abroad. A general presentation about the functioning of the MEA was exhibited.

This was the third edition of the program event. It was first organized in Hyderabad in March 2018, followed by the second one in Guwahati in July 2018. (UNI)
