Kicking up a war over Nehru’s legacy, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has shot off a letter on Monday to Narendra Modi asking him to leave Nehru Memorial Museum undisturbed. This is following a move by central government to change the nature and character of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) and the Teen Murti Complex.
In his letter, Manmohan Singh said that historic Teen Murti complex should not be disturbed. Raising concern over the move by BJP government, Manmohan Singh warned that the government should not disrespect Nehru’s role in Indian independence.
Showering praise on Nehru, Singh said, “His distinctiveness and greatness have been acknowledged even by his political opponents and rivals. Jawaharlal Nehru belongs not just to the Congress but to the entire nation. It is in this spirit that I have written to you".
A report said that Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is planning to create a museum for all former Prime Ministers in the Teen Murti complex, dedicated to the memory of Jawaharlal Nehru. Copy of Manmohan Singh’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi given below:
