President visits Guruvayur temple

Thrissur, Aug 7: President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday visited Guruvayur temple and had darshan at the Lord Krishna temple.

The President, accompanied by his wife arrived the temple town from Thrissur around 1300 hrs and after a brief halt at temple guest house, proceeded to the temple. He was received by Devaswam Chairman P B Mohan Das and the chief priest.

He spent about 15 minutes inside and went around the temple. He also visited the nearby Mammiyur Shiva temple.

Earlier, the President inaugurated the Centenary celebrations of St Thomas college, Thrissur. He said Christian institutions have done a lot for the education and St Thomas college is pioneer among such institutions.

Security was stepped up during the visit of the President in view of a threat to his life. A temple priest has been taken into custody by the Thrissur police for issuing bomb threat to the President. The priest claimed that he made the call in a drunken state.

The 45-year-old priest, Jayaraman of Chirakkal Bhagavathy temple, was picked up from his house in the early hours of Monday after he rang up the police control room on Sunday late night and informed that a bomb will be planted at St.Thomas College where Ram Nath Kovind is scheduled to inaugurate centenary celebrations.
