The condition of DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is “extremely critical and unstable”, the Kauvery Hospital said in a medical bulletin at 4.30 p.m. today, hours before the 24-hour deadline it had fixed was to expire.
The bulletin said that despite maximum medical support, there had been “ a significant decline in his medical condition over the last few hours” and his vital organs had further deteriorated.
Karunanidhi’s son M K Stalin, his wife Durga and daughter Kanimohi were by his bedside then the hospital released the bulletin
The last national leader to visit him today was Union Minister Nitin Gatkari.

With Karunanidhi’s end near, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy held consultations with the Director of General of Police and the Chennai Commissioner of Police on beefing up security further as the number of grieving party men swelled around the hospital. Two batttalions of the Tamil Nadu Special Police have been requisitioned as part of the additional security needed to see through Karunanidhi's last journey.
