President calls on Karunanidhi

President Ram Nath Kovind today visited  DMK chief and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the Kauvery Hospital and enquired about his health from his children M K Stalin and Kanimozhi and an attending doctor. In a tweet, the President described Karunanidhi as a senior and wished him speedy recovery.

The President, who flew into Chennai after concluding his tour of Andhra Pradesh, drove straight to the hospital and spent 15 minutes there. He was accompanied by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit who received him at the airport.

Emerging from the hospital, the President waved to the crowd of supporters, but did not meet the press, The President immediately flew to Thiruvananthapuram on the last lap of his southern tour.

The hospital released  a photograph showing the President interacting with Stalin and Kanimozhi and a doctor at the hospital

When Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Congress president Rahul Gandhi visited the hospital, it released photos showing them with Karunanidhi in the ward.

No such photograph has been released this time. The hospital has also not released any bulletin after the last one said that Karunandhi’s age-related ailments have led to overall decline in his health and that his liver and blood counts have been affected and he would have to have an extended stay.

Stalin said a few days ago said his health was improving and he was made to sit in the wheel-chair for a while. The hospital has not made any such report.
