Agriculture is the back bone of the country:Rajnath

Union Home Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh has said that agriculture and farmers are the backbone of the Indian economy.

He said the rural banks and the network of the banks in rural areas is also very important rural and the national economy.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly emphasized the role of the rural banks in the Indian economy as they serve the last person on the ladder. The rural banks are an important institution for achieving the goal of doubling the income of the farmers by 2022,," Mr Singh said.

Mr Singh was addressing a function on Saturday after launching the 'Gramin Bank of Aryavart Free Group Personal Accidental Insurance Scheme for borrowers- 2018'.

"The Prime minister has resolved to double the income of the farmers by 2022, the year of celebration of 75th years of independence. For achieving this objective we need to bring down the cost of agriculture inputs’’, said Mr Singh adding, "The effective measures taken by the NDA government has resulted in sharp drop in the price of the Urea and other fertilizers and earlier the farmers were compelled to buy the urea in black market’’.

The Home Minister said the government is working for ensuring the uninterrupted supply of electricity to the farmers at cheaper rates and minimum support price which at least 1.5 times more than the cost incurred by the farmers in growing the crop.

Terming the Jan Dhan Yojana (financial inclusion schema) as the huge success story of the NDA government, Mr Singh said that the government has ensured the access of the common man to the banking service. He said today 31.5 crore people in India have bank accounts and the share of India was 55 percent in the total bank accounts opened across the globe in last one year.

The former BJP president said the NDA government has paid special attention on the social security and initiated the schemes like Atal pension Yojna and crop insurance scheme.

He said that if India has to achieve the status of largest economy of the world then we need to reach out to the last man on the ladder.

Mr Singh said that India has got global recognition that we are the fastest growing economy of the world and today we are the sixth largest economy of the world.

He also added that If India is able to maintain the present growth rate of economy by 2030 then we will be the third largest economy of the world.

On Sunday Rajnath Singh will lay the foundation stone of the three flyovers to be constructed in the state capital at Atal convention center.

The Home Minister during his stay in Lucknow will meet senior party leaders, local BJP leaders and several delegations of traders and others. (UNI)
