Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today visited ailing DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the Kauvery Hospital where he is under treatment for the past eight days and prayed for his early recovery.
Naidu met DMK working president M K Stalin and DMK Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi and enquired about Karunanidhi’s health. “Praying that he recovers soon and gains his health back”, Naidu tweeted.
When Naidu’s father-in-law and Telugu Desam founder N T Rama Rao’s Ministry was dismissed in September 1984 by Indira Gandhi, Karunanidhi played a key role in bringing all non-Congress leaders under one front that eventually led to the launch of the National Front in Chennai in which rally Rama Rao and other leaders took part.
Former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, after calling on Karunanidhi, recalled his role in the formation of non-Congress governments, including his at the Centre in the 1990s.” He was responsible for making me Prime Minister in 1996 and I cannot forget that”said the 86-year-old Janada Dal (Secular) leader.
Union Minister Suresh Prabhu was among those who met Karunanidhi in the last two days. He wished a long life. Not only Ministers and top political leaders, but also eminent persons from other fields have also being visiting the hospital. One such is Mylswamy Annadurai, space scientist who was associated with ISRO’s multiple satellite launches and was also Project Director of Chadrayaan-I, said Karunanidhi’s was a “dominant personality” and he would overcome his illness.
President Ram Nath Kovind will be the highest dignitary scheduled to visit Karunanidhi. The President who is going on a tour of Telengana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, is expected to visit Chennai on Monday afternoon and call on Karunanidhi.
