The Thane Crime Branch has arrested the wife of Naeem Khan, allegedly a a member of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's gang and also seized an AK-56 assault rifle, three magazines, a 9 mm pistol and 108 live rounds, suspected to be part of cache smuggled in before 1993 serial blasts, from her residence in Goregaon.
The police said that Yasmeen Khan, wife of Naeem Khan, who is currently lodged in Thane jail after he was arrested in 2016 by the Mumbai Crime Branch for allegedly plotting to murder Iqbal Attarwala at the behest of Chhota Shakeel, was arrested on Saturday.
Thane police chief Param Bir Singh said, "Acting on a tip-off, we raided the residence of Naeem Khan, a history sheeter currently in prison, and recovered an AK-56 rifle, three magazines, 95 live rounds, two 9mm pistols, and 13 live rounds from Naeem's wife Yasmin, who was arrested. The AK-56 is suspected to be a part
of supply that was made post-93 blast and could be one of the three missing AK-56 that was sent by Dawood Ibrahim from Pakistan to India."
Police added that earlier, they had received information about the cache of weapons from two accused arrested by the Anti Extortion Cell of the Thane Crime Branch earlier this week. The AEC had on Thursday apprehended Jahid Ali Kashmiri (47) and Sanjay Shroff (47) from Thane. Both were allegedly carrying five grams of cocaine from Rabodi area. The duo was remanded in police custody till July 11.UNI
