Senior BJP leader and Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Monday condemned as "improper and unacceptable’’ Rajya Sabha member Naresh Agrawal’s comment on former Samajwadi Party colleague Jaya Bachchan at the time of quitting the latter party.
"Shri Naresh Agarwal has joined Bharatiya Janata Party. He is welcome. However, his comments regarding Jaya Bachhanji are improper and unacceptable,’’ Ms Swaraj said in a tweet.
Mr Agrawal, who retires from the Rajya Sabha on April 2, was denied re-nomination by the Samajwadi Party (SP). Instead the party decided to re-nominate Ms Bachchan who also retires on April 2.
While joining the BJP, Mr Agrawal commented that he was upset at SP giving preference over him to ``someone (Ms Bachchan) who dances in films’’.
At this party spokesman Sambit Patra, who was on the dais said, ``Before Mr Agrawal is handed over the joining certificate, we want to say that no profession is bad. We respect all professions.' (UNI)
