46,000 women empowered by Brahma Kumaris

Anyone visiting Brahma Kumaris ashram in Shantivan can see more women volunteers than men. This is all because of women empowerment.

Brahma Kumaris (BK) officials claim that the organisation has empowered around 46,000 women, which is largest in India. "Here we don't differentiate between men or women, which can be seen by the fact that most of our heads today are women. Till date, with our efforts around 46,000 women are empowered,'' Komal, head of Public Relation Officer of BK told UNI on Saturday.

Women empowerment was one of the main missions of the BK, which the organisation recognised years ago. For empowering women, BK went to the grassroots, Komal informed.

With the help of Gram Panchayats, Sarpanchs, Gram Parishads, workshops on "women empowerment" were conducted in several villages across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and several other states. In these workshops, spiritual knowledge was imparted, the PRO said.

One should not confuse between 'spiritual' knowledge with 'religious' knowledge. Spiritual knowledge awakens the soul which further leads to enlightenment and self development, the PRO said.

Women in these workshops were taught the 'Rajyoga' meditation. This Meditation is the journey inwards, a journey of self-discovery or, in fact, re-discovery without rituals or mantras.

Giving details of the procedure of induction of women as volunteers, he said " after the workshop, they are first trained for one year in BK ashrams and those who successfully complete the training are finally absorbed as volunteers.''

The women volunteers, who are also called "sisters" here, are provided with clothes, food, shelter, and medical facilities free of cost, the PRO said.

"Here we feel empowered. Not only for ourselves but today we are able to stand for others,'' said a sister.

The officials here say that this transformation was because of "Raj Yog" meditation. Raj Yog meditation is one the main attractions of BK, which the organisation is teaching for years. This meditation has transformed million of lives and today even foreigners are practising this, the PRO added.
