As former Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday handed over the baton to her son Rahul Gandhi, senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel said that serving as her Political Secretary, had been his greatest honour.
In a post on social media, Patel thanked the outgoing president for steering the party through challenging times.
'Would like to thank outgoing Congress President for steering the party through challenging times, leading it with grace and being a source of unshakable conviction, courage and vision for crores of party workers. Allowing me to serve as Political Secretary has been my greatest honour,' Patel said.
Gandhi assumed the office, with Chairman of the Central Election authority Mullapally Ramachandran handing him over the certificate for his appointment to the topmost post of the Principal Opposition party. He replaces his mother Sonia Gandhi, who has been the longest serving President of the party, holding the party reins for the last 19 years.
