The stage is set for the 31st Summit of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) to be hosted at Philippines capital Manila beginning November 10.
Major issues relating to security in the Asia Pacific region are likely to be taken up at the conference as most of the ASEAN members are littoral states of the South China Sea.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Summit on November 12.According to reports in Philippines media, Modi is also expected to tour Philippines for a few days after his attendance of this year's ASEAN Summit in Manila on November 12.
Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Philippines after 1981 - when the Late Indira Gandhi had visited the country.
During his stay, Modi will also call on Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte.
A Treaty of Friendship was signed between the Philippines and India on 11 July 1952. The ASEAN–India Free Trade Area agreement signed by India in 2009 also includes Philippines as signatory.
The US President Donald Trump is also expected to be in Manila during the Summit.
