Gauatam Bamabawale, currently serving as High Commissioner to Pakistan, was on Thursday appointed as new ambassador to China. An IFS officer of the 1984 batch, Mr Bamabawale is an old hand on China, having served in the country in various capacities. In 2007, he became the first Consul General of India in Guangzhou, China. He has long experience of dealing with China as Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the Ministry of External Affairs, a post he held from 2009 to July, 2014. Mr Bamabwale has also served in US, Germany and Bhutan.
