Union Minister for Finance Arun Jaitley today said that efforts were made to reduce the cost of digital transactions in the country. "The Central Government and RBI have taken various steps to bring down the cost of digital transactions to encourage the people to adopt digital payments and government is extending lot of incentives to the people to shift to digital mode of payment and the response is quite positive," he added.
Jaitley was speaking after inaugurating 100 Branches, 100 ATMs and 100 Digital Villages of Vijaya Bank. The Finance Minister complimented the efforts of the Bank towards financial inclusion and for its initiatives in creating a digital economy by adopting 100 digital villages. Jaitley handed over sanction communications under Stand-up programme of Government of India and also under the unique 'Debt Swap' facility to some of the beneficiaries. To mark the occasion, the Bank under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative adopted 100 girl children belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC and economically weaker sections of the society in the age group of five years and above, wherein Bank will bear their educational expenses upto post graduation level.
