Pennews

India has denied that it was supplying BrahMos anti-ship cruise missile to Vietnam. The reports had come amid continuing standoff in Doklam between India and China which is locked in a territorial dispute with Vietnam.

Replying to a question at the weekly media briefing here, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the reports were incorrect. "It is not correct. The person who has been quoted, the ministry has already rejected and they are saying that the news item which is running and which is out is incorrect," he said. However, the Vietnam Foreign Ministry has not come with a clear cut denial of the sale of BrahMos.

A Vietnam Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, on being asked about the report said, ''procurement of defense equipment by Vietnam is consistent with the policy of peace and self-defense and is the normal practice in the national defense. We will forward your question to the relevant agency." He also said the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership had been actively developing in many fields including trade, investment, economics culture, education and defense and security.
