In Ballabhgarh’s Khandavli village, in Haryana, where five youth were beaten up on a train and one of them, a 16 year-year-old boy Junaid, succumbed to stab injuries, there were no celebrations.
The residents of the village had decided they would only offer prayers at the mosque and wear black arm bands as a mark of protest. ‘We will prepare a sweet as a token but there would be no feasts or lavish festivities’, said an elder. They also lamented that neither the Prime Minister nor any other national leader had come to their place to offer condolences. Some people of the neighboring Nuh village have also joined in the protest as a mark of solidarity.
A mob had got into the train and attacked the youths few days ago on the suspicion that they were carrying beef, while they were returning from shopping for the festivities.
