Kohima, Dec 28: Severe cold wave grips several parts of Nagaland and reports of snowfalls were reported from districts of Kohima, Zunheboto, Tuensang, Phek, Peren and Kiphire since Thursday night.

The Pfutsero town of Phek district of Nagaland has the high altitude and is the coldest town of the state and the Zunheboto district is the coldest district as per temperature recorded by the weather monitoring departments. Snowfalls were reported in Tokiye town, Luveshe Old and Hoshepu villages under Aghunato sub-division under Zunheboto district, while Zavame village under Pfutsero sub division in Phek district, Kiutsukiur and Konya villages under Tuensang district, Phisame village under Kiphire district and Dzuleke under Kohima district were under the cover of snowfalls.

Luvishe Old village and neighboring areas under Aghunato sub-division experienced snowfall yesterday. The frozen lake at Pfutsero sub-division and the coldest inhabited place in Nagaland was also frozen by yesterday morning. At Kapamodzu peak, Zavame village under Phek district, fresh snowfall was also reported yesterday, reports said. The cold spell and rain is likely to continue for a couple of days.

According to forecast reports by the weather monitoring agencies yesterday, few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershower with gusty winds is likely to continue at many places over Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peron, Phek, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto the districts of Nagaland.
