Nagaland Govt forms Committee on influx of illegal migrants

Kohima, Aug 21: After the Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal immigrants (JCPI) submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary, the Nagaland Government has formed a Committee headed by Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister Abhishek Singh.

In a statement issued by JCPI through its media cell informed that when it submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary and a meeting was held, whereupon a committee was immediately formed during the discussion. The meeting was also attended by Home Commissioner, Special Secretary of Home and the Director General of Police along with Additional DGP.

JCPI expressed hope that the committee headed by a senior bureaucrat would fully satisfy the demand of the Naga public. According to JCPI, the newly formed committee has been asked to submit an interim report within 15 days on comprehensive action plan and mechanisms to streamline ILP, to effectively curb illegal immigrants and to bring out a strong policy to safeguard the rights and security of indigenous inhabitants Nagaland as a consequence of the ongoing NRC drive in Assam.
