Kohima, Aug 7: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) will be carrying out its 1st Phase of exercise to prevent influx of illegal immigrants in the state, particularly taking into consideration the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.
In a press release today issued by NSF president Kesosul Christopher Ltu and General Secretary Imtiyapang Imsong said in order to “segregate genuine Indian citizens from the illegal immigrants,” the NSF informed that student volunteers will be assigned to verify documents of non-locals “at any time and at any place.”
It therefore directed ILP holders to carry along with them their ILP and other relevant documents like Electorate ID Card and Aadhaar Card. “In the process of verification of ILP and other related documents, the defaulters who are not able to produce the documents will be considered as illegal immigrants and the defaulters will be handed over to the District Administration and Police or will be dealt with stern action as deemed fit by the Student Unions,” the NSF stated.
The federation meanwhile made clear that this exercise is being carried out to identify illegal immigrants, while adding that “no genuine citizens of the country will be harassed in the process of the verification, so long as the person is able to produce the documents.” It appealed to the district administration and law enforcing agencies to extend their assistance and service as and when required by the student unions and its volunteers.
The NSF also asked the public to support and extend co-operation to the unions and its volunteers “as the current issue/threat is a common concern faced by the public,” the release said. (UNI)
