Swedish startup Uniti along with India’s Bird Group will launch Rs.7lakh-range electric cars in India by 2020. The company has unveiled a five-seater model electric city car for a close-up view of the public in the Auto Expo-2018. The joint venture plans to cash in on the green mobility wave in the country in 2020.
The car may be priced around Rs 7.5 lakh. Uniti is the fourth international automotive brand that has announced plans to enter India by the turn of the decade, following Kia Motors, MG Motor, and Peugeot.
The bird group and Uniti together are planning to bring a stylish yet affordable, 100% electric city car to the Indian market in 2020 with a price tag starting from Rs. 7,14,000 (approx. Euros 9,000).
“Our vehicles are optimal for the Indian market and well aligned with the nation's strong demand for clean mobility. Bird Group was identified as an ideal partner due to their experience in the mobility sector, along with their capacity for local assembly and mass distribution of our vehicles,” said Lewis Horne, CEO of Uniti.
The electric car is planned for the market here will have a range of 250 km. It will be positioned in the mass segment and come tagged between Rs 7 and Rs 7.5 lakh. The company in the process of commencing a market analysis, in collaboration with the Bird Group, to understand the driving habits and needs of Indian consumers.
