Aizawl, Nov 5: Mizoram BJP on Monday joined the bandwagon in the state led by NGOs demanding the 'ouster' of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S B Sashank for his role in the drastic action against the former Home Secretary Lalnunmawaia Chuaungo.
"I express my solidarity with my people, and request that you do everything in your power to neutralise the situation so that the election process to the state legislative be allowed to move forward peacefully," state BJP president J V Hluna said in his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said in the light of the developments related to Home Secretary's transfer and the stand taken by the CEO and Election Commission - "....the Mizo people have expressed their common and united stand in calling for the removal of the inept Chief Electoral Officer, whose actions have created a disruption, the likes of which have never before been seen in the period leading to the conduct of elections in the state".
The BJP chief also backed the Congress government headed by Lal Thanhawla's stance vis-a-vis "electoral rights" of the Brus and wrote: "Contrary to CEO's allegation, the state administration has always been sensitive to the electoral rights of the Bru voters living in relief camps in Tripura".
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla in a missive to Prime Minister demanded that Mr Sashank be removed at the earliest. (UNI)
