Shillong, May 21 : Meghalaya government is in the process of procuring three incinerators for proper disposal of bio-medical wastes in three government-run hospitals in the State, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Thursday. “I would like to correct that Shillong Civil Hospital does not have an incinerator.
The process for procurements of incinerators is on for Shillong Civil Hospital, Jowai Civil Hospital and Tura Civil Hospital in all three locations,” Sangma clarified to a reply given by Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek during the Question Hour in the Assembly. He informed the Assembly that one incinerator has been installed at the Shillong Civil Hospital.
On the other hand, Independent legislator S.K.Sunn informed that the only hospital in Shillong which has an incinerator is the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS). Furthermore, he said that the incinerator installed by the Shillong Municipal Board at the dumping ground in Marten was not functioning.
Lone Nationalist Congress Party legislator Saleng Sangma has urged the government to direct all hospitals in the state to make it mandatory to install incinerators for disposal of bio-medical wastes. (UNI)
