Shillong, May 8 : The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Friday wrote to Chief Secretary M.S.Rao seeking a list of individuals stranded in Meghalaya who wish to return home and the cost of their rail tickets. MPCC Working President James S. Lyngdoh asked to provide the list of migrant labourers since most of them have applied to the SDO (Civil), District Magistrates or State helplines to the to facilitate their return journey In his letter, he also asked the Chief Secretary to inform them on the travel fares so that they can deposit the money directly with him.
Lyngdoh said that the Congress party is also in the process of identifying and reaching out to needy workers and migrant labourers to facilitate their return journey. “It is the duty of every Indian to stand by our workers and migrant labourers, who are nation builders and the ambassadors of India’s growth,” the Congress leader said, adding that “it is indeed heartbreaking that their return journey, which could have been handled with ease and grace, has been allowed to escalate to such levels due to the mercantile and apathetic attitude of the central government as also the Railways ministry.
