Shillong, Mar 25 : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday appealed to all citizens to donate to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for COVID-19 to deal with the crisis due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Till date, not a single case of COVID-19 has been detected in Meghalaya. “With the rampant outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country and number of lives being affected by the virus, we appeal for donation,” Sangma said.
The chief minister said the state government is stepping up by providing the necessary aid, but in this time of crisis, and appealed to all responsible citizens to step in and do their bit. Meanwhile, the Marwari community of Shillong has formed a committee of all Marwari owned fair price shops and following a consultation with the Deputy Commissioner Supply, Shillong and other arms of the government to provide free rations to the poor.
On the other hand, the state government has constituted an advisory committee of medical experts to seek suggestions from the latter on how to handle the dynamic situations arising out of novel COVID-19. Rao said that the government has taken all necessary measures to tackle COVID-19 and various defence establishments have offered to extend their help to the government. (UNI)
