Shillong, Nov 22 : Four-time member of Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Latiplang Kharkongor was on Friday elected unopposed as the new Chief Executive Member of KHADC.
Outgoing Chief Executive Member of the Council Teinwell Dkhar boycotted the election of the new KHADC Chief on Friday in the 30-member House. The present strength of the House is 29 following the demise of United Democratic Party member Nasar Marwein.
The election is necessitated after the UDP-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) executive committee was defeated in the No-confidence motion held on Wednesday. The No-confidence motion was moved by the opposition Congress.
The UDA has the support of 14 MDCs while the newly formed United People’s Forum (UPF) has 15 MDCs including 9 members of the Congress , three Independents, three members of National People’s Party and lone People’s Democratic Front member. KHADC Chairman Pynshngain N Syiem formally announced the election of Kharkongor as the new CEM of the Council. (UNI)
