Shillong, Oct 30 : A civilian died and 21 BSF jawans with 2 civilians severely injured when a bus in which they were traveling slipped off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Umtyrah village in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills District, a police official said on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police in-charge West Jaintia Hill district, Lakador Syiem said that all the injured BSF injured personnel and two civilians had been shifted to Khliehriat Community Health Centre and North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong for better medical treatment.
A civilian, identified as Jogto Gogoi was a helper of the bus (co-driver), succumbed to his injuries at Khliehriat Community Health Centre, he said. The injured BSF were proceeding towards Silchar in Assam.
Meanwhile, police have started investigating the cause of the accident. (UNI)
