Shillong, April 8: Election officials on Sunday seized cash worth Rs. 6.4 lakh in poll-bound Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district, Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Roy Kharkongor said.
He said the unaccounted money was seized from two persons during checking of vehicles by election flying squads at Hallydayganj under Selsella assembly constituency. Selsella (ST) Assembly seat is going to by-election simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls to Tura and Shillong Lok Sabha constituencies on April 11.
Kharkongor said an amount of Rs 4,80,000 was seized from one Saha and another amount of Rs 1,60,000 was also seized from one F Seikh. The seized money has been kept in safe custody of Tura Treasury Strong Room. Selsella by-election will be held along with Lok Sabha elections to the two parliamentary seats – Shillong and Tura on April 11. Election officials have so far seized over 55 lakh across Meghalaya.
